Organizing Your Room for SpringOh, hello there! Do you always procrastinate when your parents tell you to organize your room? Do you always think “nah, why should I?” and then look at the mess your room has become? Well, Pink Smoothie (as always) has got you covered! I have always been an organized person, but when it comes to my room, I’m a mess. Partially because, a) there are so many piles of books that do not fit into my bookshelves anymore, and b) I always procrastinate at the thought of making space in my bookshelves. And if you’re always feeling that “oh no, it’s the day I have to clean my room!” then you’re probably discouraged. Here are some wonderful tips that can help you! 1. Play your Spotify playlist! What’s better than organizing and singing along your favorite lyrics? Nothing (unless reading a great book) compares to that feeling! If you don’t have Spotify, then you should log into your YouTube account and see the personalized playlists the video-making platform has for you. Then, just press play, and you’ll love cleaning! When you hear your favorite song, you feel like you’re flying, dreaming, or that you’re up in the sky with the angels in soft clouds watching the sunset go down and the moon and stars take over. Okay, I might have exaggerated on the sunset part, but it’s true! Hearing upbeat music can make you excited, and that’s the mood we should be going at while organizing your bedroom. Sometimes, Spotify has a Dance Playlist, so you can play that, and you’ll be dancing and singing along in no time! WARNING: Don’t put music that makes you sleepy, the ones that work like sugar in your blood (making it go so hyper), or music that you know that will distract you. If you do, you’re probably going to feel tired and will want to sleep. Just give it a try, and let’s see if you like cleaning your room better 😊 2. Clean your drawers! They might be full of junk! And let’s start donating…! Okay, your drawers are one of the most important things in your room. Where do you keep your clothes? Yes, in your closet, but sometimes we keep our comfiest clothes in the drawers. Where do we keep our notes our elementary school friends have gifted us the day before starting High School? Where do we keep photos of our middle-school “super cute” crush? In our drawers. Those might not necessarily need to be junk, but what about old candy wrappers? Empty papers? Just because your crush gave it to you doesn’t mean you’re going to keep it for all your life, dear reader! These are the types of junk I’m talking about. Unnecessary junk. So, you better be wearing gloves, because when you open those drawers, there’s going to be dust, girls. I have experience with that, believe me. Alright, now, you need to have three boxes (cardboard ones big enough to fit in all of the stuff you’re going to keep, the ones you’re going to throw away, and the ones you’re going to donate) and you should keep in mind that going through all the things that have been stored throughout the years in your drawers, can be painful. If you see an old grade from Middle School, you should probably keep it, since your parents (like most) would love to keep a grade during your time as a child. Okay, enough with the nice parts 😊 Are you ready to wear your gloves again? I hope yes! When you start putting things in the donations box, you need to remember that some of your clothes in the drawers might carry emotional and painful memories. You will sometimes want to keep those clothes—but you have to remember that what you donate, will have a better home with people that will probably wear it every day. After you have thrown all of that stuff to the trash can, finished closing your donations box, and sighing as you see the pile of stuff you’re gonna keep, you’re done with step #3! Two more steps to go, and your room will be as good as new. 3. Pick up the trash that’s on the floor… vacuum, and just simply clean! This can be a really good step if you analyze it clearly… you can sing while you vacuum! It might feel good and you might feel excited. The beat of the music with the sound of the vacuum cleaner… oh wonderful. You might want to continue wearing your gloves while you pick up the trash, and hum along the music. It’ll feel good and relaxing, though the thought of it right now might seem terrifying and tiring. It isn’t! We’re on the good parts… remember that the best is yet to come! When you clean, you feel clean too. You might want to spray air fresheners to make the room Spring-themed, put on some Flower Lights, and just embrace the Spring Spirit! 4. Clean your shelves… your book piles and other valuables need space! Space in your room is everything! We have to de-clutter! You have to clean! Okay, this is where I say I slack off. I constantly procrastinate while cleaning my bookshelves, because, it reminds me of all the books I want to re-read and those I have to read. #bookwormstruggles are so real, I know. First, we need to dress up like we’re going to war. Second, we need to have gloves on and a stash of cleaning wipes near (there’s gonna be dust, so be prepared to die!), and we also need tissues because, we all shed tears when we spot our childhood books. So, when I first start cleaning it, my Spotify playlist starts blasting and I tell myself, “Pink Smoothie, you’re the general of an entire army of teenage bookworms and teenage girls. You have to do this.” Then, with a sniff, I start emptying the shelves one, by one. Afterwards, after all of them are completely empty, I look at myself and gush, “Oh my, I haven’t shed a tear!” And speaking of the devil, they appear just as I have cleaned the dirt inside the bookshelves and start putting all the books in my book collection one by one. “Oh no! This was my favorite book when I was eleven!” I cry, holding the book close. “I so have to re-read it.” I was doing this yesterday and believe me, I have now three books in my re-read list (the Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children trilogy, which the last two books I had forgotten the plot), and I, for once, did not cry so much. It’s a sad thing, really. Watching your childhood memories be stored again in your shelves, ready to be re-read and ready for you to cry when you start reading them again. This world is a cruel one, my friends. Anyways, when you see that your bookshelves can’t hold anymore space, then it’s time to pull out the extra plastic boxes. Remember, your favorite book can always be in your bedside table, ready to be read before falling asleep. If you still have more books that don’t fit in inside your bookshelves, I guess it’s time to pull out the extra plastic drawers and put them there. After you have finished storing them in, put them below your bed. When you want to read any of those books, you can just find them right below you! And if you want to have more space in your bookshelves, you can donate some of them to your local library, or you and your closest friends can do a book exchange per month. It can be like a challenge! You read some of their books, and they read some of your books… book fun! And now, we’re reached the most dreaded place of all…. Your closet. 5. Cold weather disappears along the Winter Holidays… and warm weather comes with the Spring. It’s the day you have to clean and organize your closet. It’s time to say goodbye to some old dresses and shoes… but you know what they say! Out with the old, in with the new. We got this, dear reader. We have this! It’s just a closet, am I right? No! We’re wrong! Why, you might ask? A girl’s closet can be the best and worst thing humanity has ever encountered—not because it’s disorganized, but because we want it to be color-coordinated, or organized by the things you wear first, or the way you like your book characters… it’s terrifying! I just organize my clothes, but for most girls, cleaning their closet is literally throwing everything outside until it’s empty, and when it’s done, we have to clean each part the closet has. And then decide if you want it to be color-coordinated or in a normal way. And then, decide if you like it or not. If you don’t like it, repeat the entire bloody process, until your mother calls you for dinner and then your mind registers that you have been up the entire day cleaning your closet! Now, it’s time for you to pull out your donations box… remember the stuff that doesn’t fit you anymore? It’s ready to be donated. However, if you have any younger siblings, they could need some hand-me-downs! Let’s remember your family too—maybe your sibling has been dying to get your old Middle School clothes! After you’ve finally gotten all your donation boxes done, carry your boxes marked “KEEPING” to the attic or basement. Then, you could simply bring them down after you’ve handed in the “DONATIONS” boxes. You’ll feel pretty great, reader dearest. Life’s a weird thing, I know. But we have to face it whether you enjoy it or not. We get to choose our paths. I’m merely helping you take the right one, and not the bad one. I hope you continue in the Light Side! Because writing these posts are so much fun, I admit. As you can notice, I’ve laid out all the simple steps of organizing a teenage girl’s room from easiest to hardest. This way, you can spend all the quality time you want with your closet! It’s cool, I know. Okay, dear readers! Thank you so much for reading this post. I’m sure y’all want to organize your rooms right now, am I right! Just kidding—but I hope that when that time of the month comes, when you have to organize it, you’ll follow this simple and wonderful steps. They’re pretty easy, you know. I’m sure most of you are wondering why I didn’t include the desk area in these set of tips, but it’s because I have a desk area in the family office and I organize it whenever I have time. If you have a desk in your room, however, then it’s best you take good care of it. It can last so many years! Happy Spring! I hope that all of you have a great season! It truly is a wonderful season where everything blooms into something unexpected, like your bonds with family and friends, so we should all be thankful! For example, I’m thankful for you all 😊 Until next time, dear readers! ©2019 Pink Smoothie!

Getting Ready to TravelHave you ever been the only person in your family being so disorganized when packing for a trip? Do you always forget a phone charger or a second pair of socks just because you’re kind of forgetful? Well, Pink Smoothie has got you covered! I’m a bit forgetful sometimes, so I completely understand how anxious you might feel right before a trip. What if you forget your phone? Your polaroid? Your journal, so you can write down the memories? Jeez… stop worrying already! It’s time to get Pink Smoothie-ed with some Tips & Advice! 1. Make a list… it ALWAYS helps. It seems like yesterday I first heard my parents tell me that to be more organized, you have to do a list before the trip. That way, you can mark the things that are already in your luggage and add the things that aren’t. However, I didn’t exactly do that (note: always follow your parents’ advice), but I’m definitely trying to. For example, if you’re supposed to be out of the door with your bags, check your stuff an hour before actually leaving, as well the night before. How are you supposed to know if you actually added your phone’s charger? Or your extra pair of socks? Or even your extra change of… um, underwear? And if you want it, you can even write it on a word document! But, if you’re less tech-savvy and more artsy-like, you can decorate a blank page with sketches or doodles, and then write the things you’ll bring with you for the trip. See? You can do it! 2. Your carrier bag needs to have the most important things. Always, always, ALWAYS, add extra pairs of clothes, underwear, books, phone charger, any electronical appliances you need to survive, and most importantly, tooth paste and tooth brush! Yep. You might be thinking, “But Pink Smoothie, why should I make my carrier bag, like… a normal travelling bag full of my clothes and stuff?” YOU DON’T KNOW IF YOUR BAG IS GOING TO DISAPPEAR, my dearest reader. You don’t know if it’ll be delivered to your hotel room five days later or even five WEEKS or MONTHS later, so you better have at least three pairs of clothes, five pairs of underwear, your laptop, extra books, phone and laptop charger, and a Spotify travel playlist ready. You might never know, my reader. Even if people get their luggage the moment they go to customs, and then to where you collect your stuff, like 98% of the time… what about the other 2%, huh? We don’t know if your luggage is sadly lost in the midst of other lost luggage—forgotten and bitter. Poor luggage, poor, poor luggage and the forgetful people that mix them up. 3. Pack lots of books for the flights! First of all, pack ‘em. Second of all, read ‘em. Third of all, ‘sleep with em. Just kidding about the third one—but please read on the flight! It can cause you sleepiness and comfortableness, and I sure love reading a wonderful book on the flight home or to your family’s travel destination! Also, if you’re going home after the trip—make sure you bought new books to keep you company, as well your “old” books too. We’re going to get into that step in just a few moments but remember to ALWAYS bring a good book without you. Sometimes, there are airplanes that have a mini-tv screen, so you can watch what they put there according to age range, but sometimes there aren’t. So, stick to your plan A… and bring your books with you! Coloring books! Your laptop! iPad! Whatever electronic appliance you want to bring with you! 4. Snacks… are EVERYTHING Yep. You’ve heard it before, you might have experienced it before… but FOOD IS EVERYTHING! In a road trip, in a plane, wherever you are—food is an extremely important factor in travelling. For example, there are some airlines that don’t offer food, just pretzels and a beverage. Sometimes, there are airlines that just offer that beverage and no snacks! So, if your flight is super-early or super-late in the morning/night, you have to make sure you buy your snacks or bring some sandwiches or breakfast/dinner ready with you. And even after surviving the flight, you have to drive three or two hours until you reach your destination and eat… because… you won’t like to die because of hunger, right? So, pack your snacks. Your breakfast. Your lunch. Your dinner. Your sweet cravings. ANYTHING TO HELP YOU SURVIVE! Never skip this step. Never. If you do, you’ll probably not survive. Just kidding! You’ll just suffer from extreme hunger and a stomach ache afterwards. But if you DO follow this step, you’re safe and sound. 5. Be confident about your trip. Okay, this is “hard” for some peeps, but it’s totally understandable. First time flying? The plane will not fall down as you might think. Thinking you’re never going to get to the hotel? Calm down, traffic happens. You think you’re probably going to die when you’re passing through airplane security? Geez, all of us still get nervous, but actually, we shouldn’t be. Fear makes security officers think we’re thieves, burglars, or someone even worse. So, they’ll probably pat you down or check your carrier bag, pockets, jackets, etc. Even your shoes! Be confident that everything will be okay, as well as your trip. We need to keep our hopes up and discard any negative comment your brain might pull up from the middle of nowhere! Being in a new country might seem exciting, terrifying, even dangerous for some people… but remember, it all counts as things in life. We never need to feel negative or terrified about something—it’s part of our life! An obstacle that needs to be overcome, a step towards success… whatever you want to call it, actually. And when you’re in your rental car, the GPS in your phone blasting through your parents’ phone (or even yours), and the view from outside the window, will make you feel cozy, and a warm feeling will come to your brain. So, y’all… I hope you enjoyed these tips! I’m certainly excited to see your comments down below and tell me if you’re doing a road trip or taking a flight soon. I would love it if you used them and hopefully, they will ensure your trip’s success. Until next time, my readers! ©2018 Pink Smoothie! Concentration WorkoutThink about the new school year starting… setting new goals… seeing all of your old friends... HOW do you CONCENTRATE doing all these tasks? Well, Pink Smoothie has got you covered! Here are a few things I have used and have worked throughout the years! 1. Train your brain at a young age… One of the youngest experiences I had with movies were with Baby Newton, Baby Da Vinci, Baby Noe, and Baby Monet DVDs. Movies help you concentrate, a lot. Why?! Well, seeing all the details, hearing the dialogues time after time—all of that actually makes your brain become more developed, and causes your brain to have a growth mindset. Organize your free time so you can watch one or two movies in a week, at least — I assure that your mind can memorize many, many dialogues. You should watch a movie 5 times at least. I watched Harry Potter for the millionth time about a week ago and I still remember all the dialogues. THANK YOU, MOM! 2. Read audiobooks. Reading audiobooks makes you become a bookworm… you shouldn’t feel ashamed for hearing someone reading a book to you—many adults actually do this to fall asleep! I even read The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R Tolkien with the audio book open (I have the Kindle edition just so ya know), and it feels so relaxing because it seems that someone’s telling you the story! For younger kids this is really fun. For example, they can read a Trolls audiobook and see the drawings/paintings, so it makes them believe they’re actually there and are watching a movie! 3. Make a routine. You should try making a routine since you’re little. You have to do it, otherwise you will live a life full of anxiety and stress. Since elementary school, you should actually start studying with games. No, I’m absolutely NOT talking about “studying with the X-Box or Video Games on”, because then temptation comes in and you start playing with them. The next day you will be DOOMED. Why? You FAILED YOUR TEST! I’m referring to games that make you feel that studying is great! For example, if you have a Grammar test coming up, you should google a game with the different types of suffixes, adverbs, etc. This would make studying and memorizing quickly, and I assure you that you will ace your test! Also, do NOT study everything the day before. Many of my classmates do that and fail their tests. I don’t. I study a little every day. So when the day before the big test comes, I finish early and watched all the Netflix I wanted. 4. Search BOARD games—they help you enhance your memory! You can entertain yourself playing board games—they’re fun, and people sometimes think they’re just bad because parents use them on family meetings! Just play a game of checkers or chess with a close friend! It helps with concentration, especially if you’re in the midst of growing up. You can also play Monopoly, Uno, and Scrabble! They help increase memory and are fun at the same time. A friend and I used to play India a lot when we were little. 5. Sleep, eat, work out, and hear classical music. This is pretty basic, but it’s true. Having a concentrated mind includes having a healthy body, and brain. Working out at least 3-4 times a day is extremely good too, because doing exercise keeps your body active as well as your mind. Try doing yoga, it includes synchronization and brings peace towards your mind and body. There are people who don’t eat well due to the fear of getting “fat”. What they don’t recognize or feel, is that not eating well makes one feel hungry, and it’s bad because you’re forcing your body to not eat correctly. What does that mean? That you will be stressed and will not sleep. Sleep loss is pretty common—it especially develops when teenagers start blooming into adults. Try to put relaxing music before you sleep—violin covers, like The Piano Guys, relaxes you a lot. You should also try drinking chamomile tea before going to sleep, because it makes your mind and body become peaceful—that’s what your body wants for you, so you can fall asleep quickly. People need at least 8+ hours of sleep before waking up, because then they’re going to be in a horrible grumpy mood and will affect those in the place they are. So, y’all! I hope you enjoyed these tips! I recommend watching movies, reading, making a routine, eating well, working out, and hearing relaxing music via YouTube or Spotify… that can actually make you fall asleep easily, wake up in a happy mood, and improve your concentration! Have a great school year! ©2018 Pink Smoothie! Becoming a BookwormHi everyone! so all of you peeps that are starting to read can have an idea of what books you need to pick to start reading. I mostly read Tween / Teen / YA books, so if you want to read these you are on the right place. This post is about my tips of how to become a bookworm! 1. Choose a book you like. So, you need to pick a book. Any book—just make sure you will enjoy the book, or you will hate it so much you won’t like to read EVER AGAIN. Let's imagine that you are a Tween searching for books according to your age, you have to look at the Barnes and Noble store for example, or any other bookstore’s categories and then pick the one you like. A little girl that wants to read a simple book with less than 100 pages, could search the Nancy Clancy book series, or a short book that is appropriate for your age like The Little Prince. Then after reading those, you can read the Dork Diaries series. You need to tell your friends about the book you’ve just read, and then act out scenes from the book. It’s a good way to learn lines and memorize stuff—it feeds your brain. If you’re a pre-teen then you would probably need to look at the Tween category at your bookstore to find the Middle School Princess series, Bridge to Terabithia, or Harry Potter. Maybe you will think Harry Potter is a bad book—but don’t judge a book by its cover! It’s fantastic when you’re a pre-teen and it’s great to expand your imagination and picture things that don’t exist in real life. Also, don’t you dare watch the movie before reading the book! If you do, I'll have to write your name in the warning book! Just kidding. But do make sure to read the book first, or you will not notice the details movies eliminate from the original novel. Like in the Harry Potter movies, there was no Peeves! Peeves played a huge part on the series, being the poltergeist of the school that traumatized millions of Hogwarts students. 2. Buy the book. You should buy the book your instinct tells you to buy—and make sure you enjoy it (see previous step). Then proceed to buy lots of bookmarks so when you buy another book, you have a bookmark to use. Buying a book might seem like a burden—since lots of kids think that reading is an “obligation”, or “just for school”. But to be honest, it is and isn’t true at the same time. Schools request (or force, as kids call it) children to read at least a book per semester and do a book report to accompany it. A child that likes to read might finish the book in a day, and write the book report the day after, but a child that does not like to read might probably take 4 weeks (almost a month) to finish reading the book, and other 4 weeks to finish writing the book report. Why? Well, children that enjoy reading feel the need to devour each page and take the hours necessary to finish the whole book, and the children that have a certain hatred towards books don’t because they just don’t like the book. Buying the book is the most important step before you begin an amazing journey towards reading. 3. Start Reading Starting to devour your book page-by-page might seem like it’s the worst idea of your life – but in reality, it can change your life in so many ways. Imagining magical worlds, fictional places, animals that don’t exist, etc., can make your intellectual abilities become more developed. You start reading a few chapters, and BAM! You become addicted. This is a kind of addiction that makes your brain, knowledge, and intellectual skills like a lightsaber—the type that can destroy anything that gets on your way. You can also master many different languages—such as Spanish, French, German, and many more. Maybe Swahili, like a friend of mine. 4. Becoming a Bookworm It is impossible to stop yourself becoming a bookworm. If you become obsessed with books and love reading them and smelling them (not the smelling part but ok), then you’re basically a book. And if you’re a huge MASSIVE bookworm, then you start inventing Fanfiction. Fanfiction is basically inventing a character inside a universe you’re so obsessed with. For example, take a look at my Harry Potter Fanfiction – and you might just notice I’m really obsessed with the whole series. 5. You don’t see the book?! Search it on your kindle. Having a kindle is one of the best things in the world. For example, you can bring it with you when you go to the dentist, when you’re in a plane, when you’re in a boring meeting, or when you just want to read. I’ve read like 1000+ books on my kindle since I was five years old. I’ve read the worst books, and the best books too. I’m reading The Fellowship of the Ring, and The Hobbit on my kindle right now, and those are the BEST BOOKS EVER! Tell me how you became a bookworm? And if you’re on your way, how’s it going? Tell the Queen of the Pink Smoothies (me haha) how your journey in becoming part of the best groups in human society is going! ©2018 Pink Smoothie! |
