Hi everyone! so all of you peeps that are starting to read can have an idea of what books you need to pick to start reading. I mostly read Tween / Teen / YA books, so if you want to read these you are on the right place. This post is about my tips of how to become a bookworm!
1. Choose a book you like.
So, you need to pick a book. Any book—just make sure you will enjoy the book, or you will hate it so much you won’t like to read EVER AGAIN.
Let's imagine that you are a Tween searching for books according to your age, you have to look at the Barnes and Noble store for example, or any other bookstore’s categories and then pick the one you like.
A little girl that wants to read a simple book with less than 100 pages, could search the Nancy Clancy book series, or a short book that is appropriate for your age like The Little Prince. Then after reading those, you can read the Dork Diaries series. You need to tell your friends about the book you’ve just read, and then act out scenes from the book. It’s a good way to learn lines and memorize stuff—it feeds your brain.
If you’re a pre-teen then you would probably need to look at the Tween category at your bookstore to find the Middle School Princess series, Bridge to Terabithia, or Harry Potter. Maybe you will think Harry Potter is a bad book—but don’t judge a book by its cover! It’s fantastic when you’re a pre-teen and it’s great to expand your imagination and picture things that don’t exist in real life.
Also, don’t you dare watch the movie before reading the book! If you do, I'll have to write your name in the warning book! Just kidding. But do make sure to read the book first, or you will not notice the details movies eliminate from the original novel.
Like in the Harry Potter movies, there was no Peeves! Peeves played a huge part on the series, being the poltergeist of the school that traumatized millions of Hogwarts students.
2. Buy the book.
You should buy the book your instinct tells you to buy—and make sure you enjoy it (see previous step). Then proceed to buy lots of bookmarks so when you buy another book, you have a bookmark to use.
Buying a book might seem like a burden—since lots of kids think that reading is an “obligation”, or “just for school”. But to be honest, it is and isn’t true at the same time.
Schools request (or force, as kids call it) children to read at least a book per semester and do a book report to accompany it. A child that likes to read might finish the book in a day, and write the book report the day after, but a child that does not like to read might probably take 4 weeks (almost a month) to finish reading the book, and other 4 weeks to finish writing the book report.
Why? Well, children that enjoy reading feel the need to devour each page and take the hours necessary to finish the whole book, and the children that have a certain hatred towards books don’t because they just don’t like the book.
Buying the book is the most important step before you begin an amazing journey towards reading.
3. Start Reading
Starting to devour your book page-by-page might seem like it’s the worst idea of your life – but in reality, it can change your life in so many ways.
Imagining magical worlds, fictional places, animals that don’t exist, etc., can make your intellectual abilities become more developed.
You start reading a few chapters, and BAM! You become addicted. This is a kind of addiction that makes your brain, knowledge, and intellectual skills like a lightsaber—the type that can destroy anything that gets on your way.
You can also master many different languages—such as Spanish, French, German, and many more. Maybe Swahili, like a friend of mine.
4. Becoming a Bookworm
It is impossible to stop yourself becoming a bookworm. If you become obsessed with books and love reading them and smelling them (not the smelling part but ok), then you’re basically a book.
And if you’re a huge MASSIVE bookworm, then you start inventing Fanfiction. Fanfiction is basically inventing a character inside a universe you’re so obsessed with. For example, take a look at my Harry Potter Fanfiction – and you might just notice I’m really obsessed with the whole series.
5. You don’t see the book?! Search it on your kindle.
Having a kindle is one of the best things in the world. For example, you can bring it with you when you go to the dentist, when you’re in a plane, when you’re in a boring meeting, or when you just want to read.
I’ve read like 1000+ books on my kindle since I was five years old. I’ve read the worst books, and the best books too. I’m reading The Fellowship of the Ring, and The Hobbit on my kindle right now, and those are the BEST BOOKS EVER!
Tell me how you became a bookworm? And if you’re on your way, how’s it going? Tell the Queen of the Pink Smoothies (me haha) how your journey in becoming part of the best groups in human society is going!
